Brooksville, Fla. – The anticipation is palpable as the Florida Atlantic women’s golf team prepares to embark on their quest for glory at the 2024 American Athletic Conference Championship. Kicking off on Monday at the stunning Southern Hills Plantation, this three-day, 54-hole stroke play event promises to showcase some of the finest talent in collegiate women’s golf. Golf enthusiasts can tune in to the final round broadcast live on ESPN+ at noon Eastern on Wednesday.
A Fresh Lineup Taking the Course
This year, Coach’s strategy revolves around a youthful lineup, featuring two talented sophomores and three promising freshmen. Leading the charge is Charlotte Perkins, who last year finished an impressive 14th in the AAC Championship. The Australian standout boasts a remarkable 75.17 scoring average, positioning her as the forefront of the Owls’ ambitions.
Returning to Southern Hills after tying for 42nd last year is Giulia Scarcello, eager to improve upon her past performance. The rest of the group is not to be overlooked:
- Nancy Cox, fresh off her best collegiate finish with a tie for 19th in Arizona, is poised to continue her upward trend.
- Maddie Rathjen made waves with a stellar 69 in the second round of her last outing, ultimately placing 38th.
- Amelia Cobb, always competitive, highlighted her early spring performance by tying for 41st at the Paradise Invitational, consistently hovering around par throughout the tournament.

This marks the third consecutive season that the AAC Championship will be held at Southern Hills Plantation, a course revered for its strategic layout. Designed by legendary architect Pete Dye, the course measures 6,289 yards and plays as a par-72, presenting both a challenge and an opportunity for the players to demonstrate their skills.
Southern Hills has a rich history, having hosted numerous prestigious events such as PGA and Korn Ferry Tour qualifying school tournaments. Most notably, it served as the 2024 Monday qualifier site for the PGA TOUR’s Valspar Championship, showcasing its caliber as a competition venue.

In the field of 11 teams and 55 individual golfers, East Carolina leads the pack, ranked No. 60 in the official Clippd team rankings. Other formidable opponents include Tulsa (66), North Texas (69), Charlotte (81), and UTSA (93), ensuring an electrifying atmosphere throughout the championship.
