Price Hill Branch Library and Last Mile Food Rescue: Nourishing the Community with Free Food Markets
A Delicious Collaboration
Cincinnati’s Price Hill Branch Library has embarked on a heartfelt initiative to combat food insecurity, partnering with the dedicated team at Last Mile Food Rescue. This collaboration aims to provide free fresh food to the community every Monday, transforming lives one meal at a time.
The Heart of Food Rescue
Hundreds of passionate volunteers from Last Mile Food Rescue tirelessly work to collect surplus food that would otherwise go to waste. By redistributing this bounty to those in need, they are turning potential waste into nourishing meals for the community.
“We definitely like to work with Cincinnati Children’s to determine where the needs are and work directly where there’s a large meal gap,” says Crystal Cottrill, the Director of Distribution Partnerships and Programs at Last Mile. This proactive approach ensures that the most vulnerable receive the support they need.
A Commitment to Community Support
According to Tara Kressler, the Assistant Public Services Director at Price Hill Branch Library, the partnership is an extension of the library’s mission to provide essential resources to local families.
“It taps into our broader commitment to the community where we’re connecting families to support and services that they need to thrive, so we’re removing barriers,” she explains.
This initiative builds on the library’s existing programs, which already include providing hot meals for children under 18.
A Hub of Resources
“The library is a hub of the community, and providing this connection is about enhancing our relationship with local residents," adds Kressler. "We are a way for folks to find resources so they can feel supported.”
This commitment underscores the library’s role not just as a repository of books, but as a vital community resource aimed at fostering well-being.
Join Us for Fresh Food Markets
Mark your calendars! The free food market will be operational every Monday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Community members can easily access this service by simply providing their zip code.
This initiative not only helps to alleviate hunger but also strengthens the community bonds among residents, proving that a little support can go a long way.
Conclusion
In summary, the partnership between the Price Hill Branch Library and Last Mile Food Rescue exemplifies the impact of community-focused initiatives. Whether you are a resident in need or someone who wants to get involved, this program is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a thriving community. Together, we can nourish both body and spirit.
