Returning on May 7 and continuing every Wednesday until July 30, the market aims to revitalize its roots while introducing thrilling new elements. Market Vice President Joti Chandi expressed his excitement about the musical lineup, which serves as a beacon for community connection and celebration.
“As one of Santa Rosa’s signature community events, Wednesday Night Market has long been a gathering place where music, food, culture, and connection come alive,” Chandi stated proudly. “We’re committed to upholding this tradition while making meaningful updates.”
A Stellar Musical Lineup
The headliners—Asia, celebrated for its progressive rock sound, and A Flock of Seagulls, a pioneer of the new wave movement—are set to take the stage on May 21 and June 11 respectively. This marks an exciting new chapter where renowned national acts share the spotlight with local talents, creating a rich tapestry of musical offerings. In addition to these main acts, local Latin musicians like Banda Los Lagos and Sonora Tropicana will also dazzle audiences, enhancing the market’s diverse atmosphere.
A Community-Centric Experience
For many, like Kristina Cassidy, the current market manager, this event is steeped in nostalgia. “It was the place to be,” she reminisces. "My high school years were filled with trips to the night market, soaking in the sights, sounds, and flavors."
Cassidy now sees the market as a hub for community engagement and vibrant midweek activities that foster a sense of belonging. “Seeing familiar vendors grow and evolve truly enriches my experience,” she shares.
Expanding for Community
In efforts to bolster participation and inclusiveness, this year’s market will feature an expansion from Old Courthouse Square to Fourth Street between B and D Streets. Additionally, in a commendable move to support local agriculture, the market will reinstate farmer’s booths, offering 10 free stalls specifically for farmers. Board member David Glass emphasized the importance of providing fresh, local produce to the community:
“This is a fantastic opportunity for the community to access healthy, fresh produce,” he remarked, urging residents to support local farmers.
A Cornucopia of Choices
Beyond the musical delights, the market will showcase over 60 food vendors, artists, and nonprofit booths. Families can look forward to fun-filled activities like face painting and bounce houses, while local groups demonstrate their talents with exciting performances like clogging.
Car enthusiasts will not want to miss the stunning classic cars on display, or the North Bay Cruisers showcasing their bicycles on May 28.
Celebrating a Legacy
With 36 years of history under its belt, the Wednesday Night Market stands as one of Sonoma County’s longest-running community events. “The heart of any great community event lies in its people—the growers, makers, musicians, and families,” Chandi explained, and this year, the market looks to honor that heart while encouraging growth and community involvement.
Moreover, the market will take a brief pause on July 2 for the Fourth of July holiday, allowing attendees to soak in the festivities of the celebration.
“This is a labor of love,” said David Glass, highlighting the dedication of the board to create an event that resonates with the community. “We want to deliver what our community truly desires.”
