Shanna Brady Joins Virginia Women’s Lacrosse Staff as Defensive Coordinator
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Excitement is in the air for the Virginia women’s lacrosse team as head coach Sonia LaMonica officially welcomes Shanna Brady as the new defensive coordinator. Announced on June 26, this strategic appointment promises to elevate the team’s defensive game and foster an environment of excellence.
Experience that Speaks Volumes
Brady’s impressive track record includes serving as a defensive coordinator for various esteemed programs, notably Towson, where she collaborated with LaMonica for two successful seasons. Most recently, her tenure at Penn State saw the team make a triumphant return to the NCAA Tournament in 2023 after a five-year hiatus. Her expertise doesn’t stop there; she has also fine-tuned defenses at Hofstra and LIU Post.

Brady is no stranger to high-stakes competition. A proud graduate of the University of Maryland, she claimed two national championships as a standout student-athlete. During her illustrious four-year career, Brady participated in Championship Weekend every season, tallying 75 ground balls, 46 caused turnovers, and 30 draw controls across 92 games. Her commitment to the sport is evident in her impressive statistics and accolades.
Coaching Legacy
Before stepping onto the coaching ladder, Brady served as a coach with the Long Island Express Lacrosse Club and was co-director of the Predators Lacrosse Club. Her passion for developing young talent shines through her coaching endeavors and contributions to the sport.
Professional Journey
Brady’s playing career extends into the professional arena, where she showcased her skills with the Long Island Sound in the United Women’s Lacrosse League and the Women’s Professional Lacrosse League. This blend of coaching and playing experience gives her a unique perspective on the game, making her an invaluable asset to the Cavaliers.
