Celebrating Library Week: A Beacon of Knowledge at Pollak Library
Nestled at the heart of the campus, **Pollak Library** stands as a vibrant beacon of knowledge and creativity, illuminating the pathways of the **Cal State Fullerton** community. Recently, this academic sanctum shone even brighter as it celebrated **Library Week**, a time dedicated to showcasing the library’s vast resources and inviting students to embark on their intellectual journeys.
Meet the COMM Squad: Igniting Passion for the Library
Understanding the library’s wealth of information can be daunting, especially when you’re new to the campus. Fortunately, the **Pollak Library’s COMM Squad**, a dedicated student marketing team, takes on the essential role of bridging this gap. Under the guiding influence of **Brenda Patino**, the **Communications Coordinator**, the team comprises five enthusiastic student assistants, all committed to making the library’s services more accessible and engaging.
Building a Sense of Belonging
As a proud Titan alumna, Patino understands the insecurities that many newcomers face. “Being welcoming and organizing events like Library Week helps students understand their resources,” she emphasizes. **”It’s about fostering a sense of belonging,”** she adds, highlighting the importance of connection within the educational environment.
Showcasing Valuable Resources During Library Week
Throughout Library Week, the COMM Squad worked diligently to create interactive displays, including **directory signs** and an engaging whiteboard at the library’s entrance. These elements guide students to discover essential resources nestled among stacks of books and help desks. **“There’s so much the library offers that students unknowingly pay for with their tuition,”** says **Nicole Anita**, a marketing student assistant on COMM Squad. **“It’s incredibly rewarding to see students excited to learn about these resources.”**
Engaging Events for All
The events of Library Week were a true collaboration among **Pollak librarians**, showcasing the creativity and effort put forth by the entire staff. Highlights included the **”Meet Your Librarian”** event on Monday, orchestrated by **Megan Graewingholt**, and the whimsical **Peeps dioramas** displayed on the south first floor, courtesy of **Joy Sage**. **“We wanted to create a balance between fun and education,”** Patino explains, ensuring students had an engaging break while learning about library resources.
Connecting Students with Overlooked Opportunities
The mission of the COMM Squad during Library Week is crystal clear: **highlighting underutilized resources** and connecting with students in meaningful ways. They’ve crafted engaging social media campaigns and even initiated fun activities like an egg hunt, which encourage students to explore the library with a guided experience. **“If you’re grappling with new subjects like AI or need assistance from subject librarians, Pollak Library is here for you,”** advises graphic design student assistant **Shekinah Calindas**.
A Library Beyond Books
For the members of the COMM Squad, the library represents more than just a place to check out books; it embodies a sanctuary for learning and community. Despite the effort that goes into planning Library Week’s events, their passion for creating a welcoming atmosphere remains steadfast. **“It goes way beyond simply checking out a book,”** Patino elaborates. **“We have a makerspace, university archives, and incredible exhibits. Whether you’re seeking friends or a study hub, you can find it here. Libraries are so much more than people often realize.”**
As Library Week wraps up, the dedicated team at Pollak Library leaves a lasting impression on the campus community, proving that a library is a dynamic space filled with endless opportunities waiting to be explored.
