Terriers Strike Gold and Break Records at Day One of Patriot League Championships
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Boston University track & field team lit up the Hart Track during the 2025 Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championships, emerging with five gold medals on day one of this thrilling competition. With a total of 11 medals, the Terriers not only showcased their talent but also shattered two meet records and three school records while securing 16 finals qualifiers.
Dominating the Day: Women’s Standings
As the dust settled on the first day, the BU women stood proudly at the forefront, amassing 59 points, significantly ahead of second-place Army West Point with 49 points, and Navy, trailing with 41 points. On the men’s side, BU found itself in third place with 39 points, catching up to Army West Point, which led with 68 points, followed closely by Navy at 56 points.
Top Performers
Ellie Roan, a junior standout, kicked off the medal race for BU, clinching gold in the hammer throw with a phenomenal distance of 59.72m. This victory marked her second consecutive win in this event, making her the first Terrier to achieve back-to-back championships in the hammer throw. 🎉
In the men’s javelin, junior Owen Faulha made history with a stellar throw of 64.00m, capturing the Terriers’ first-ever gold medal in this event. 🌟
Another highlight was junior Peace Omonzane, who reached a groundbreaking distance of 6.44m in the long jump, breaking a school record that stood since 2009 and also setting a new meet record, surpassing the previous mark by 0.36 meters. Omonzane has now triumphed in three of the four horizontal jumps across both indoor and outdoor championships this year.
The Terriers also dominated the 4x800m relays. The men’s team, comprised of Thomas Cowan, Karsen Vesty, Shamiso Sikaneta, and Parker Schneider, secured gold with a time of 7:29.61.
- On the women’s side, Lily Borin, Olivia Dodds, Maura Woodland-Medenilla, and Vera Sjöberg showcased sheer power and teamwork, clinching victory with a new school and meet record time of 8:39.22. Sjöberg’s impressive final leg of 2:05.77 helped them outpace Army West Point, surpassing a 27-year-old school record. 🚀

In the men’s long jump, senior Samuel Roszak and junior Ryan Rosenberger claimed silver and bronze medals, respectively, with jumps of 7.53m and 7.51m.
The women’s long jump once again saw a Terriers sweep, as Asia Hamilton (6.10m) and Emma Lawrence (6.07m) followed Omonzane to secure silver and bronze.
Additionally, Merem Gabriel-Rodriguez took home a bronze medal in the women’s 10,000m, finishing with a strong time of 37:12.55.
