The Great Food Truck Race Rolls Into Darlington: A Culinary Adventure Awaits!

DARLINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — This past Sunday, the charming public square of Darlington was transformed into a bustling culinary festival, capturing the spirit of Food Network's hit show, The Great Food Truck Race. The air was thick with the tantalizing aroma of sizzling street food, as thousands flocked to witness the thrilling competition unfold.

A Flavorful Competition Since 2010

The Great Food Truck Race has been a staple of the Food Network since its debut in 2010. This high-energy reality show showcases a delicious race where nine food trucks battle it out, aiming to serve up the most enticing dishes and ultimately earn the coveted title—and a cash prize of $50,000. The competition is cutthroat; those trucks that don’t generate enough revenue are eliminated, adding an exciting twist to the culinary showdown.

Community Enthusiasm Soars

The event saw food enthusiasts travel from far and wide, with many excited patrons eagerly sampling dishes alongside locals who were thrilled by the show's presence. Host Tyler Florence expressed his appreciation for the enthusiastic community support.

"I love the fact that we get this much traction and all these great towns specifically in my home state of South Carolina. I’ve bumped into a lot of people who say they’ve driven from Myrtle Beach, from Greenville—everywhere—to be part of this, and it’s just so much fun!"

Brittany Scarce, a devoted fan from nearby Lamar, echoed this sentiment, stating, “We love the Food Network and the show, so we wanted to come out and support it.”

Darlington Joins the Fun

The excitement surrounding the filming attracted not just foodies but community leaders as well. Hunter Thomas, the Public and Community Affairs Director for Darlington, shared his enthusiasm:

"The Food Network contacted the city of Darlington because they wanted to film The Great Food Truck Race here in town, and of course, we jumped on it. We love having the Food Network here!"

The variety of food trucks showcased represented diverse culinary traditions. Among them, Peanut Patch, based out of Effingham, created quite a buzz as they served their famed creations during the filming.

Meet the Boiling Brothers

One notable participant, The Boiling Brothers, infused the event with their love for Southern cuisine.

"I'm boiling bark, and I'm boiling Brent!” exclaimed Brent Underwood, one half of the culinary duo. His partner, Bark Lattimore, added, “We got the call from the Food Network a couple of days ago about being featured and were overjoyed. I drove down from Virginia to get here; we weren’t going to miss it for anything."

As the two enthusiasts shared their passion for peanuts, Lattimore reflected on the nostalgic memories their food evokes for many patrons.

"It’s genuine love for the product," he shared. "A product like this reminds people of their grandpas cooking these on the stove, spending time with family—heartwarming stuff!"

What Lies Ahead

As the competition narrows down to just four remaining trucks, excitement builds for the next elimination, scheduled to take place on Tuesday at the Public Square in Darlington. Food fans can also catch The Great Food Truck Race at Darlington Raceway on Monday, enjoying the thrilling spectacle of host Tyler Florence behind the wheel of a pace car!
