WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The University of Minnesota women’s golf team showcased a stunning performance at the Boilermaker Spring Classic, with sophomore Mariana Mesones leading the charge. Mesones recorded an impressive tie for fifth place, finishing the tournament with a score of even par 216 (75-70-71) over three competitive rounds.
A Team on the Rise: Minnesota’s Best Finish of the Season
In a thrilling display of talent and teamwork, the Gophers maneuvered up the leaderboard, securing a tie for fifth place—marking their best finish of the spring season. With a total score of 24-over par (300-294-294), the team has proven their determination and skill as they prepare for upcoming challenges.
A Championship Driven by Excellence
Claiming the title at the Boilermaker Spring Classic was Illinois, who finished with a score of 11-over par (296-281-298). The competition was fierce, but the Gophers exhibited remarkable resilience, setting the stage for a promising season ahead.

Mariana Mesones’ exceptional performance wasn’t the only highlight for Minnesota. Here are some noteworthy accomplishments from the tournament:
Ruby Chi, a junior star, delivered a commendable performance, finishing in a tie for 11th place with a score of 5-over par (73-75-73). This marks her best tournament finish since joining the Golden Gophers.
Isabella McCauley concluded the event tied for 20th place, posting a three-day score of 8-over par (76-73-75).
Meanwhile, her freshman sister, Reese McCauley, showcased improvement by shaving two strokes off her score, ending in a tie for 40th at 12-over par (76-77-75).
Rounding out Minnesota’s lineup was Madison Le, who finished tied for 65th place with a score of 18-over par (81-76-77).
- Competing individually, Jordana Windhorst-Knudsen finished tied for 48th at 14-over par (76-76-78), while Sara Tomaszewski closely followed in 56th with a score of 16-over par (78-75-79).
Looking Ahead: The Big Ten Championship
The Gophers are set to take the course once again at the Big Ten Championship, taking place in Havre de Grace, MD, from April 18-20. With recent momentum on their side, they are eager to continue their rise within the conference and make a substantial impact.
