University of North Carolina Athletics: A Triumph in Gymnastics

Lali Dekanoidze: Elevating Excellence

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – A star shines brightly as senior Lali Dekanoidze has been honored as a 2025 Regular Season All-America by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association. This coveted recognition is a testament to her exceptional skills and relentless dedication to the sport.

Understanding All-America Qualifications

How is this distinguished award determined?

The Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association recognizes its top talents based on the National Qualifying Score (NQS) at the end of the regular season. Specifically for Division I, the First Team All-America designation is awarded to the top eight finishers, along with ties, across all four events, including the all-around competitions.

Last Time Out: Breaking Barriers

In her most recent outing, Dekanoidze shattered her own school record by executing a flawless perfect 10.0 on bars. This remarkable feat positions her among the elite; she becomes only the fourth gymnast in the program’s illustrious history to achieve such a remarkable milestone. Moreover, she successfully defended her ACC title, sharing the spotlight as co-champion on her signature event.

But the excitement doesn't stop there. The University of North Carolina gymnastics program prepares for another exhilarating challenge as they head to the University of Alabama for regionals. They are buoyed by the momentum of one of the most thrilling meets in history at the 2025 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships, where the Tar Heels finished third with an impressive score of 197.225. Notably, this marks the third-best team score in the school's history and the fifth encounter of breaking the 197.0 mark, reflecting a remarkable evolution in Carolina gymnastics, particularly during the Danna Durante coaching era.

Upcoming Anticipation: Tuscaloosa Regional

What's next for the Tar Heels?

Carolina gymnastics competes in the Tuscaloosa Regional on April 4 at 2:00 p.m. EST, a contest that fans can catch live on ESPN+. The stakes are high, and the excitement is palpable as they aim to capitalize on their recent success and make waves in the regional competitions.
