Clare McNamara’s Journey

Clare McNamara took center stage early in the day, opening her heptathlon with a personal-best time of 15.49 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, placing her 20th with 778 points. Her performance continued to impress as she cleared 1.60 meters (5 feet, 3 inches) in high jump and then soared to 10th place in the overall rankings by showcasing a phenomenal 14.67m (48-1.75) mark in the shot put.

Despite running a personal-best 25.52 seconds in the 200-meter dash, McNamara wrapped up the day sitting in 12th place overall with 3,193 points. The heptathlon will conclude on Saturday with thrilling events like the long jump, javelin throw, and the 800-meter run, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.

Additional Wolverines’ Performances

Abigail Russell made her mark in the hammer throw, finishing 22nd with a distance of 53.43m (175-3)—the first of three events she will participate in this weekend, showcasing her resilience as a freshman.

In the 10,000-meter run, Mary Caroline Heinen secured a commendable ninth place with a time of 33:53.50, while Gabbie Michael followed closely, finishing 25th with a time of 36:50.98. These performances reflect the high level of competition Michigan athletes embody on the track.

Samantha Hastie faced a challenging 1,500-meter run, placing 35th with a time of 4:42.86, yet her dedication and perseverance through the season have undoubtedly laid the groundwork for future improvements.
