Entering the Weekend: Gophers’ Current Standing
Currently, Minnesota holds a 19-28 record overall, with a 4-15 standing in Big Ten play. Following a victorious finish against Wisconsin, the Gophers dramatically swept Pitt and North Dakota, notching an impressive five-game winning streak—the team’s longest of the season! Minnesota aims to extend this streak to six games, marking their first six-game winning run since last year (March 29 to April 6).
The Golden Gophers’ defensive prowess was on full display last weekend, with back-to-back shutouts against Pitt leading to their first streak since blanking Ohio State and Michigan in 2023. They’ll be looking to unleash another stellar performance against the Wolverines.

With a record of 9-14 and a 2.84 earned run average, Schwartz has struck out 113 batters while allowing just 57 walks. Her three saves place her fourth in the Big Ten, and notably, she has delivered five shutouts, ranking her second in the league and 15th nationally.
Recently, Schwartz earned her first Big Ten Pitcher of the Week award after dominating performances against Pitt and North Dakota. Over four appearances, she threw a staggering 16.0 scoreless innings, striking out 15 batters and allowing only six hits. Her breathtaking weekend was capped off with her first career no-hitter against North Dakota—a remarkable achievement that etched her name in Gopher history as the 13th player to accomplish this feat.
Powerhouse Performers: Krapf and Valencia
Senior Taylor Krapf has been the Gophers’ offensive powerhouse, leading the team with an impressive 15 home runs—the 11th-best in the Big Ten and a new personal best! She’s racked up a staggering 31 runs and 38 RBIs, demonstrating her prowess at the plate. Krapf now stands among the elite, having joined the ranks of players with 40 career home runs, tying with legends like Kendyl Lindaman and Kaitlyn Richardson.
Adding to Minnesota’s offensive arsenal is senior Nani Valencia, who leads the team with a remarkable .356 batting average. Known for her discipline, Valencia has outperformed her strikeouts, showcasing her ability to get on base with 19 walks compared to just 15 strikeouts.
Facing the Wolverines
As the Gophers prepare to clash with the Wolverines, they face a historically tough opponent, holding a 30-80 record in their all-time meetings. However, the Gophers stunned Michigan in their last encounter, pulling off a three-game sweep—their first since 2012.
Michigan enters this matchup with a 32-18 record overall and a 9-10 mark in Big Ten play, struggling with six losses in their last seven games. The Wolverines boast a formidable hitting lineup, highlighted by Indiana Langford (batting .407) and Jenissa Conway, who has racked up 16 home runs and 50 runs this season. Their pitching staff has also been impressive with a team ERA of 3.21, making this matchup a thrilling one to watch.
