After a thrilling weekend at High Point, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons are gearing up for an electrifying competition in Durham at the Duke Invitational, scheduled from April 10-12, 2025. This marks the fourth event of the outdoor season, and anticipation is soaring among fans and athletes alike.
Event Details: What to Expect
Prepare for non-stop action as the athletes vie for supremacy on the track and field. Here’s a snapshot of the schedule for the Duke Invitational:
- Thursday, April 10: Duke Invitational at 2:00 p.m.
- Friday, April 11: Duke Invitational at 11:00 a.m.
- Saturday, April 12: Duke Invitational at 11:00 a.m.

Spotlight Performers: Meet the Deacons
The Demon Deacons’ lineup features a blend of seasoned veterans and promising newcomers, ready to showcase their skills.
Brooke Wilson: A Rising Star
One name that has been on everyone’s lips is sophomore Brooke Wilson. Following an astounding 10,000m debut at the Raleigh Relays, where she shattered the outdoor program record, Wilson is set to dazzle once again as she competes in the 5000m on Friday evening. With a personal best of 15:51.57, the Deacon Nation is buzzing with excitement!
Hammer Throw Achievements
The Deacs will also be represented in the hammer throw by seniors Jacob Goldberg and Isabella Gera, alongside freshman Kristyna Peterova, kicking off their campaign on Thursday.
After securing a third place finish in women’s shot put at the VertKlasse meet with a throw of 14.13 meters, Gera is poised to take the competition head-on.
On the Hunt for Glory
Freshman Samantha Heyison, a three-time member of the USA National Team, is excited to return to the field, competing in both the shot put and discus events on Friday. Her recent performance pulls No. 1 for the Deacons, as she recorded impressive throws of 39.79m in discus and 11.89m in shot put at the VertKlasse meet.
Emerging Talents
Adding to the roster, the talented Aria Wegh continues to set personal bests this season. She has captured the spotlight with a fourth-place finish in the 400m, clocking in at 56.46 seconds, along with exceptional times in both the 200m and 400m hurdles.
Debuts and Record Chases
As the competition heats up, junior Paul Specht and freshman JoJo Jourdon are eager to debut in the 1500m. Both athletes recently shone at the 2025 ACC Indoor Track championships and are determined to make their mark outdoors.
Senior standout Emma Douglass is gunning for the program record in the 800m as she steps back onto the track, seeking to eclipse the time of 2:04.46 set by Nikeya Green in 2003. Douglass recently finished in 2:04.81 at the Raleigh Relays, currently placing her second on the all-time list.
Upcoming Challenges
Following the Duke Invitational, the Demon Deacons will gear up for the Wake Forest Invitational, taking place in Winston-Salem, N.C. from April 17-18.
