UTRGV Women’s Golf Shines in Second Round of SLC Championship: A 10-Stroke Miracle!

SAN MARCOS – In a stunning display of skill and determination, the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women’s golf team improved their game dramatically in the second round of the Southland Conference (SLC) Championship on Tuesday at the picturesque Kissing Tree Golf Course. After kicking off the tournament with a first-round score of 309, the Vaqueros rebounded with an impressive second-round 299, slashing 10 strokes off their score and positioning themselves firmly in seventh place with a two-round total of 608.

A Day of Splendid Performances

Key Players Lead the Charge

The Vaqueros’ resurgence was propelled by the standout efforts of sophomore Preston Saiz and senior Cristina Galban, both of whom delivered stellar second-round performances, carding an even-par score of 72. Their consistent play has placed them in a tie for 14th place with a cumulative score of 150.

Meanwhile, sophomore Natalia Rodriguez continues to impress, currently tied for ninth place with an overall score of 148 after navigating the second round with a 76. This puts her just six shots off the lead held by Augusta’s Zoe Pinillos, who boasts a two-round total of -2.

The Rest of the Team Contributes Effectively

Not to be overlooked, junior Jackie Howard Gonzalez found herself tied for 33rd place, logging a second-round score of 79 for a two-round total of 160. Freshman Kieli Saenz faced a tougher challenge, finishing in 38th place with a total score of 165 after a round of 83.
