Charlie Palmer’s Culinary Oasis: Appellation Lodi Hotel Set to Open

Celebrity chef Charlie Palmer is about to unveil his first culinary-driven hotel under the Appellation brand in Central California, marking a significant milestone in luxury hospitality. Scheduled for a grand opening in late May, this establishment isn’t just another hotel; it’s a gastronomic journey set against the picturesque backdrop of Lodi. And the excitement doesn’t stop there—more Appellation hotels are already on the horizon, with upcoming locations in Healdsburg and Petaluma.

A New Culinary Landmark: Appellation Lodi

Nestled within the scenic landscape of Lodi — renowned for its vibrant wine culture and home to over 85 boutique wineries — the Appellation Lodi — Wine & Roses Resort and Spa promises a luxurious retreat that thrives on the flavors of its surroundings. The 66-room boutique hotel will reopen after significant renovations, transforming the iconic property into a true culinary haven.

The Vision Behind the Brand

Charlie Palmer, who co-founded Appellation with luxury hospitality expert Christopher Hunsberger, aims to create a unique narrative through his hotels, emphasizing the local culture and cuisine. In a recent announcement, Palmer conveyed his enthusiasm: “Appellation Lodi will serve as an anchor for discovering the destination and its vibrant offerings.”

The hotel’s rich heritage remains intact, with Palmer and Hunsberger dedicated to preserving the welcoming essence that has characterized the property since its beginnings as a ranch over a century ago.

Dining Experiences to Savor

One of the standout features of Appellation Lodi will be its dining options—two exceptional restaurants created by Palmer himself: Maison Lodi and Americana House.

Maison Lodi: A Taste of France in Lodi

Opened in February, Maison Lodi replaces the former Towne Corner Café & Market. This charming eatery features a French-inspired menu that delights patrons with baked goods, rotisserie-roasted chickens, seasonal salads, and artisan sandwiches. It’s a vibrant café and market that invites locals and travelers alike to indulge in its delectable offerings.

Americana House: A Progressive Dining Experience

Set to open by the end of June, Americana House will introduce diners to Palmer’s brand of “Progressive American” cuisine. This innovative culinary style involves reinterpreting classic European dishes, bringing forward the best of American artisanal products while championing local ingredients. This transformation from the previous Towne House Restaurant promises to elevate the dining scene in Lodi.

Future Developments: From Lodi to Healdsburg and Beyond

The vision for Appellation doesn’t end with Lodi. Currently, three more locations are in the works, with Appellation Healdsburg and Appellation Petaluma leading the charge in Sonoma County.

Appellation Healdsburg: A Ground-Up Creation

Appellation Healdsburg is set to break new ground as the first hotel built from scratch under the Appellation name. Scheduled for completion this summer, the hotel will encompass 108 guest rooms across 12 unique buildings, two refreshing pools, a spa, and a sprawling 15,500 square feet of event space, highlighted by a 4,700-square-foot restaurant serving Palmer’s celebrated cuisine.

Palmer emphasizes the importance of welcoming the local community: “(There’s) going to be people coming here hopefully from all over the place, but first and foremost, it’s about welcoming locals into another great piece of Healdsburg.”

Appellation Petaluma: Culinary Dreams Ahead

Appellation Petaluma will add its unique flair with a 93-room hotel in downtown Petaluma. Anticipated to feature a 190-seat signature Palmer restaurant and a rooftop event space, this project is also navigating the complexities of city approvals. Palmer envisions the Petaluma location as a true “celebration” of the city and a collaboration with local businesses.

Crafting Experiences: Connecting Community and Guests

All Appellation properties will incorporate Crafted at Appellation programming, offering guests hands-on classes and workshops led by local artisans and makers. This unique initiative enhances the guest experience, solidifying Appellation’s commitment to celebrating local craftsmanship and culture.

Looking Ahead

With forthcoming projects including Hotel MOHI by Appellation in Morgan Hill and Appellation Pacific Grove in Monterey County, Charlie Palmer is on a mission to redefine hospitality in California.

Lodi, Healdsburg, and Petaluma are just the beginning—this culinary powerhouse is focused on merging the love for exceptional food with unique travel experiences.

As you consider your next getaway, keep an eye on these upcoming Appellation properties, where each visit promises not just a stay, but a delicious journey into the heart of California’s culinary landscape.
